“Understanding the principles of geometry opens the door to comprehending the world around us.” Integrating art with math is not just fun but also develops curiosity in children to learn. Grade 9 students were engaged in a hands-on activity to understand and verify the Pythagoras Theorem, using origami paper (square sheet). They were required to make a paper boat from the sheet and then unfold it. The next step was to look out for right-angled triangles. They needed to mark the sides of one of the triangles and their adjoint squares. After this, the verification was done by calculating the areas of each of the squares. By engaging students in this interactive and hands-on activity, the students refreshed their childhood memories of making paper boats and developed a deeper understanding of the Pythagoras Theorem.
