Std. 3 - Seed Bombs Activity

Aug 12, 2022

There is no planet B; we have only ONE Earth to live; so let’s care- Unique way of celebrating 75th Year of Independence Day.

As our country gears up to celebrate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in this 75th year of India’s Independence , the mood amongst the school children has been evidently upbeat and while the kids are enthused to celebrate this great occasion by adding a patriotic fervor to the celebration there is also an added sense of seriousness and responsibility towards the environment.

Over the last few years there has been a growing voice in favor of the need of environmental conservation. Our ecosystem is under threat like never before, to capture the impact of such environmentally dangerous phenomena, students of grade 3 undertook a very interesting activity of launching seed bombs– a project to give nature a helping hand.

A seed bomb is a marble sized ball made of clay, earth and seeds which is used to replant areas. Once the bomb has been thrown and the seeds have begun to germinate the bomb will slowly break apart. The soil will then provide a base for the seeds to start growing.

Students divided themselves in groups and walked down a stretch of land in our school throwing the seed bombs in areas easily accessible to rainwater.

Students also scattered the seeds of the Amaltas and Neem which is known for its medicinal properties. This was indeed a unique experiential learning for the students. This activity is a symbol of first step of school students towards a greener eco system.
